POSITION SUMMARY—Monitor and audit all coating departments and areas to ensure our products are world class quality. Ensures products meet or exceed the quality requirements of our vendors and customers. Drive APQP and PPAP activities for specific customers related to coating processes. Participate and support assessments, audits, and problem-solving activities related to coating processes. Lead testing and validation of samples required for coating approvals. WORK ENVIRONMENT— Must be willing and able to work in an environment exposed to elements that can include but are not limited to coolant, dust, mist, elevated noise, and uncontrolled temperatures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead, analyze, and provide feedback on test results to production management or staff in regard to coating systems.
  • Create and implement inspection and testing criteria or procedures for coating systems.
  • Track defects, test results, or other regularly reported quality control data for coating systems.
  • Identify critical points in the manufacturing process and specify sampling procedures to be used at these points for coating systems.
  • Identify quality problems, areas for improvement, or cost reductions and recommend/implement solutions for coating systems.
  • Instruct staff in quality control on analytical procedures for coating systems.
  • Instruct vendors and contractors on quality guidelines, testing procedures, or ways to eliminate deficiencies for coating systems.
  • Participate in the development of product specifications related to coating systems.
  • Produce reports for nonconformance of products or processes, daily production, root cause analysis, or quality trends for coating systems.
  • Evaluate new testing and sampling methodologies or technologies to determine usefulness for coating systems.
  • Coordinate the selection and implementation of quality control equipment such as inspection gauges for coating systems.
  • Participate and support the problem-solving process for customer and internal concerns related to coating systems.
  • Complete or participate in customer, supplier, and internal assessments and audits.
  • Create or update work instructions (WI) and standard operating procedures (SOP) related to coating systems.
  • Collect and analyze production samples to evaluate quality related to coating systems
  • Review statistical studies, technological advances, or regulatory standards and trends to stay current on issues in the field of coatings
  • Plan, lead, and submit coating approval packages to customers for; monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ability to stop the production line and/or prevent shipment of product to our customers due to a known or potential nonconformance.
  • Maintain and support the environmental policy with deployment, governance of the policy and processes, evaluation, and taking actions for process improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of coating materials, equipment, and processes; including but not limited to powder coat, E-coat, rough coat, chrome, and anodizing.
  • Knowledge of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Knowledge of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Knowledge of ISO9001/IATF16949 and ISO14001
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to make critical decisions with potential high business impact results
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and delegation skills

  • Ability to prioritize workloads and meet project deadlines

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field Experience: Minimum of three years of related experience Computer Skills: Must demonstrate computer literacy; Proficient in Microsoft Office, Minitab or similar SPC software; Ability to utilize vendor and customer software programs Certificates & Licenses: Relevant coating certifications or training preferred Other Requirements:
